Hierarchs of Ukrainian Orthodox Church take part in honouring martyrs of Chelm and Podlasie in Poland
On June 5, the hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church con-celebrated with Archbishop Abel of Lublin-Chelm, Archbishop Paisius of Peremyshl and Gorlitsa and Bishop Varsonofy of Semyatychka during the festive All-Night service.
After the service, Metropolitan Nikodim and Bishop Pimen attended the Office for the Dead at the burial place of the innocent people of Verhovina village, who gave their lives for the Orthodox faith on June 6, 1945. At that time, about 200 people were executed.
On June 6, the commemoration day of the Holy Martyrs of Chelm and Podlasie, at the Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the church of St John the Theologian in Chelm.
After the service, the hierarchs, clergy and numerous worshipers walked in a procession with the cross around the church. In conclusion of the celebrations, the congregation was addressed by the archpastors, the Information-Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church reports with reference to the Press Service of the Diocese of Zhitomir.
