Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk expressed his condolences on the death of Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak, one of the oldest clerics of the Orthodox Church in America

Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, expressed his condolences to His Beatitude Tikhon,  Metropolitan of All America and Canada, on the death of Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak, one of the oldest clerics of the Orthodox Church in America.

His Beatitude Tikhon
Archbishop of Washington
Metropolitan of All America and Canada

Your Beatitude,

With sorrow I have received the news about the demise of one of the oldest clerics of the Orthodox Church in America, Protopresbyter Daniel Hubiak.

Father Daniel devoted all this life to the service of the Church of Christ. Along with pastoral work, he fulfilled the important church tasks of treasurer and chancellor of the Orthodox Church in America.

Deceased Father Daniel made special efforts to foster the relations of the Orthodox Church in America with the Mother Church. He was a first-hand witness of the epoch of the granting of a Tomos of Autocephaly and later the first representative of the Orthodox Church in America to the Patriarchal See of Moscow, the founder and first rector of the Moscow Representation of the Orthodox Church in America.

I was lucky to serve as a priest together with this outstanding pastor at the Church of Great Martyr Catherine-in-the-Fields. I can testify to the sincere love the Muscovites had for Father Daniel. With great joy we recalled those times together with Father Presbyter during our last meeting in December 2019 in Moscow, during the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Representation.

I am praying for the repose of the soul of the deceased Protopresbyter Daniel in the dwellings of the righteous. Please, convey my sincere condolences and words of consolation to Matushka Evdokia who has become an orphan and to the children, relatives, friends and spiritual children of the deceased.

Eternal memory be to him!

+ Hilarion
Metropolitan of Volokolamsk
Chairman
Department for External Church Relations
Moscow Patriarchate
