DECR Communication Service, 18/08/2026
On 18th August 2026, at the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, DECR Chairman, met with Metropolitan Nektarios of Kerkyra, Paxoi and the Diapontian Islands, who had arrived in Moscow the day before as head of a delegation of the Kerkyra Metropolis of the Orthodox Church of Greece. The delegation accompanies a particle of the relics of St. Spyridon of Tremithus – his right hand – which had been brought to Russia for veneration.
The DECR chairman warmly greeted the guest and thanked him for bringing great spiritual joy to the faithful of the Russian Orthodox Church, who received an opportunity to welcome the great Christian shrine kept on the Island of Corfu in Greece.
Present at the meeting were Mr A.V. Karmakov, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Regional Energy Company; Mr P.A. Spyridonidis, Assistant to Metropolitan Nektarios of Kerkyra; as well as members of staff of the Department for External Church Relations – Hieromonk Mark (Akhmatkhanov) and Deacon Sergy Monakhov.
At the conclusion of the meeting, its participants venerated the right hand of St. Spyridon of Tremithus. Metropolitan Anthony heartily thanked Metropolitan Nektarios for bringing the relic to the Department for External Church Relations and expressed hope that through his prayerful intercession St. Spyridon would guide the DECR staff in their work.
The two hierarchs also exchanged commemorative gifts.
