Memorial Services were celebrated in London on the 23rd anniversary of the repose of Metropolitan Anthony (Bloom)

On August 4, 2026, the 23rd anniversary of the repose of the founder of the Diocese of Sourozh, Metropolitan Anthony (Bloom), was prayerfully commemorated at the Cathedral of the Dormition in London.

The service was presided over by Bishop Matthew of Sourozh and Bishop Nectarius of London, Great Britain and Ireland (Serbian Orthodox Church). Concelebrating with the hierarchs were the Secretary of the Diocese of Sourozh, Archpriest Dimitry Nedostupenko, the Secretary of the Diocese of Britain and Ireland, Priest Borislav Kovachevich (Serbian Orthodox Church), and clergy of the Diocese of Sourozh. The deacon’s ministry was headed by Protodeacon Vadim Santsevich, reports the diocesan website.

At the memorial litany, prayers were offered for Metropolitan Anthony, of blessed memory. Following the dismissal of the Liturgy, the hierarchs and the clergy who had concelebrated with them celebrated a memorial litia in the center of the church.

Bishop Matthew addressed those present with words of preaching and spiritual instruction, emphasizing the significance of Metropolitan Anthony’s labors in building and developing the life of the communities of the Russian Orthodox Church in the British Isles. He warmly thanked Bishop Nectarius for joining in prayer on this commemorative day, and also welcomed the clergy and laity from Wales who had come to the memorial service.

On the same day, at Brompton Cemetery in London, Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, concelebrated by the clergy of the diocese, celebrated a panikhida at the grave of Metropolitan Anthony (Bloom). Parishioners of the cathedral, his spiritual children and admirers of the ever-memorable hierarch prayed at the memorial service.

Following the panikhida, Bishop Matthew addressed those gathered. The hierarch warmly thanked everyone for joining in prayer on this commemorative day and called upon them to carefully preserve the spiritual legacy of Metropolitan Anthony.
