Over 40 million roubles – Russian Orthodox Church’s aid to victims of fires

The Synodal Department for Charity and Social Service has raised 40 792 000 roubles, 37 930 US dollars and 5 601 euros in aid to victims of fires, Miloserdie.ru has reported on August 23.

Since the beginning of fires, the Department has sent over 260 cars with aid to regions. The first, emergency, stage in the aid to victims and fire-fighters has been completed. The next stage is to give designated aid to people on individual victims lists compiled locally.

On August 25, the Department will hold a conference of leaders of relief working groups set up in dioceses on the instruction of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. It will be attended by representatives of 14 most affected dioceses including those of Nizhniy Novgorod, Ryazan, Moscow, Voronezh and Lipetsk. The meeting will decide how to coordinate further the designated aid in regions.

The Synodal Department thanks all who have brought aid to homeless victims of fires in recent weeks. We have stopped collected clothes, foodstuffs, medicines and fire-fighting appliances because the rains have prevented storing things at the Department’s yard, while all the premises are filled up. In the nearest future, we will need volunteers for sorting out the clothes which have not been distributed.
